Many people will tell you what they think is the easiest way to learn a language. Here is mine.
If your pronunciation habits are bad people may not understand you.
You can be hard for your time to form to shape sounds that your native language never had to use before: like 英语, or English in Chinese, doesn’t have all the sounds that Chinese has. I tend to not like things that say it sounds like… They tend to be a little different and the sound is not quite right. If you get the chance try listening to the native for pronunciation and learning a language. Many times people learn a language from someone else. This is dangerous because they make mistakes too.
Books don’t speak to you, so how could they teach you proper pronunciation. I love audio sources for repetition, but it’s not for learning the initial pronunciation. If I’ve never heard that sound before I might hear it incorrectly. Simply stated natives are the best when it comes to pronunciation feedback, but movies don’t get angry when you test them the 100th time: 英语口语 or spoken English (in Chinese) is a good thing to practice for that.
A native is definitely the best way to learn how to use a new vocab word. Books often give you a list of words and it’s very formal and people don’t use it that way. Learning vocabulary words from an audio source is not the greatest idea. You don’t know if you’re using the words correctly. Videos are nice because you can watch them tons and tons of times to watch and learn vocabulary. Just make sure it’s useful vocabulary.
Grammar books can be useful if you want to know why something is the way it is. However, people don’t usually speak correct grammar all the time. People just say what they want to communicate. They do it without thinking about grammar. Sometimes if you’re caught up on why things aren’t making sense grammar might be helpful.
Just be like a little kid with learning a language and copy everything you hear in that situation. Children are introduced to grammar when they start school, but they speak a language way before then. Children do not originate anything up their own usually. Usually they’ve heard someone else say something similar in that instance. It’s obvious that children make grammar mistakes sometimes as well. They do that but they also learn what to say by hearing others.
Kids learn a foreign language by way of copycating everyone around them together with anything they hear them mention. Once you begin to get familiar with a foreign language the most effective way to keep it is usually to check some thing you are interested in.
It’s very uncommon for me to have to say individual letters to other people so they know what I’m talking about. For this reason it’s not very practical to learn the alphabet. I wouldn’t suggest learning numbers as one of the first things for learning a language because you don’t use it in every situation or even 80% of the situations. I have seen word lists on the most common words in the language. This is a terrible way to learn a language if you want to know practical usage and how to use them. You just know the words, but you don’t know how to use them. If I’m going to have to learn math in that language I need to study a lot of things about math. Find things you’re going to have to know.
Do this to learn a language like your own native language: say it out loud in a conversation 10,000 times. It really is that easy. It just takes a lot of work. I’m sorry, you’ll just have to say it many times make it stick and spit it out recited like a native would. If you want to sound like a native you have to say things without thinking about them. You have to practice hundreds of times.
Just because you know a couple languages doesn’t mean other languages necessarily get easier: so don’t bother just learning 英语单词 or English vocabulary (in Chinese). Don’t expect to learn a new language in a day. Your brain has to get used to it and so does your tongue. Every day you have to practice so that you can learn more and more how to say things. Keep studying stuff that’s going to hold your interest because that’s the stuff you’re going to talk about anyway among friends.
Everybody likes to see progress with anything. Do things that bring the quickest progress for you.
