Following the infection is proven, it can be given oral prescription antibiotics (penicillin, amoxicillin) or injections. 3. Streptococcal pharyngitis comes on quite suddenly. A painful throat which comes on gradually over a couple of days is not often strep.
4. Usually fever exists, and usually a relatively high fever of greater than 102 degrees Fahrenheit.
5. Swollen lymph nodes which are tender within the anterior neck are normally associated with this condition.
6. On looking at the throat you may notice small bright red patches called petechiae on the soft palate, plus a patchy whitish yellow exudate about the throat strep throat is more likely.
In summary you should have your child seen in day one or 2 of a severe a sore throat that is the primary signs of strep throat, without runny nose or congestion, that’s associated with fever. Having swollen anterior neck lymph nodes plus a petechial rash around the throat associated with a patchy white or yellow exudate on the tonsils. It is important to have your child seen at the start of the course of strep throat because although early treatment in the first two times of symptoms may shorten the condition by a day or two, treatment after 2-3 events of symptoms has not been shown to decrease the duration of the condition.
